Job-switching patterns in knowledge-intensive industries within the Helsinki-Uusimaa Region

Report

A Working Paper by the Helsinki City Executive Office (ROBUST Helsinki Living Lab partner) explores how community structure can influence the dynamics of local networks. It examines the spatial dimension of inter-organizational employee mobility in knowledge-intensive industries of the integrated labour market of 26 municipalities in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Region. The paper confirms that companies in knowledge-intensive industries benefit from shorter distances throughout the Helsinki-Uusimaa region - in both dense business clusters and in less dense areas, where businesses are geographically further away from each other on average. This finding has implications for the future growth outlook of the region as these knowledge-intensive industries become more significant players in the labour market.
